Principal of Childs Elementary School

Dear Bernice Childs Elementary Families,

Welcome to a brand-new school year!

The staff and I are filled with excitement as we prepare to welcome our scholars back. Each year, we are proud to see the incredible progress our students make and it’s clear that our hard work is paying off. Together, we continue to strive toward our goal of ensuring that every scholar is performing at or above grade level. We know that none of this can happen without you. Your partnership and involvement make a world of difference, and we truly value your support. Whether it’s checking in on homework, attending school events, or simply encouraging your child each day, your role is essential to their success.

This year, we are placing a strong emphasis on two key areas: attendance and daily reading. When students are at school every day and on time, they’re set up to get the most from their learning. Also, when they read every day whether it’s a storybook, comic, or article, it builds vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence. and most importantly, reading stamina. Just like running or exercising, the more a child reads, the longer and more confidently they can stay focused and engaged with texts. More importantly, research shows that students who read daily perform better across all subjects. Math is also a big focus! We're committed to making math meaningful and fun. You can help at home by playing math games, exploring patterns, or just asking “how did you solve that?” during homework time.

We can’t wait for a year full of growth, achievement, fun and engaged learning. Thank you for being our partner in this important work!

With gratitude,

Mrs. Tarita Lowery
Principal
