Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome back to a brand-new school year. To our new families, welcome to Bernice Childs Elementary School where our mantra/motto is “Every Child Deserves a Champion!” It simply means there’s an adult who will never give up on our scholars. It’s also a person who understands the power of connection AND insists that all children become the best that they can possibly be! Research shows when kids have someone who will encourage them to exceed and tell them how incredible they are, and who inspires them to be and do better, they have a chance to flourish in every aspect of their lives. Think about that one person who inspired you as a kid and told you to always reach for the stars. Being champions for children is who we are and as we continue to always be that person, this year we will accomplish our goals with a ”Growth Mindset” in everything we do!
In addition, it has been proven that attendance is important because scholars are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school Every day and On-Time! Writing is also a critical aspect of learning and should be done in more than just reading. There’s writing in math and in other subjects as well. Writing also helps scholars to express themselves and share their knowledge. The more exposure to writing, the better scholars are at becoming dynamic readers and thinkers. We also need MORE parent involvement. Being a supportive parent means having your child’s best interests at heart but also being present and involved.
